Candidates may therefore be provided with stipends in return for serving as research assistants, instructors and teaching assistants. Candidates may further be financially assisted with an in-state tuition status.  Some universities may provide complete tuition waiver to their PhD candidates as well.
Teaching assistance involves lecturing, grading and proctoring. They are not responsible for the course however. An instructor, on the other hand, is responsible for the course. A research assistant collaborates with a faculty members on a research project.
